Since 2015, the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band has been engaged in an all-out public campaign to protect Juristac, the tribe’s most sacred site, from a proposed sand and gravel mine. Please join us to hear directly from four Amah Mutsun tribal members about tribal history, the tribe’s work to return to Juristac, and updates from the ongoing community campaign to stop the planned mining project.

Thanks to the combined efforts of tribal members and many supportive individuals and organizations—including UCSC students—a strong opposition to the planned mine has so far delayed Santa Clara County’s decision on its approval. Join us in discussion to learn about what’s next and how you can support this ongoing journey to protect the sacred lands of the Amah Mutsun. The event is open to UCSC affiliates and guests.

UCSC students, staff, and faculty are invited to #MeToo and Women of Color in the Arts, a forum designed to empower the next generation of women in arts industries by learning our herstories. The forum features a panel discussion (November 14, 4:00-6:00 p.m.) that will include two of the most prominent women of color in the #metoo movement: Rowena Chiu (featured in the film, She Said, 2022) and Drew Dixon (featured in the film On the Record, 2020). They will be in conversation with a Q&A including UC Santa Cruz faculty. The films will be screened a few days ahead of the panel discussion. While the panel focuses on women of color in the arts industries, these stories and speakers resonate across disciplines.
